The first step to selling online is setting up your store. Your online store is the first thing customers see when purchasing from you. You want it to be visually pleasing and practical. At Local Line, many of our customers have set up awesome stores for a variety of uses! Need some inspiration to get started? Here are some online stores that are doing it right!

Selling to Wholesale: Firmly Rooted Farm

Located in Belgrave, Ontario, Firmly Rooted Farm is a small-scale organic vegetable farm. They grow on 3.5 acres of land and use organic methods to produce healthy, delicious, and beautiful vegetables, herbs, and flowers. They currently sell to customers at farmers' markets in both Bayfield and Goderich, as well as wholesale to restaurants and retail locations.

Firmly Rooted Farm is one of the many suppliers that use their online store to sell solely to their wholesale customers. Their store allows them to organize their larger orders, while also providing their larger customers with an attractive storefront and easy ordering system. Additionally, their profile and header photos are beautiful, while also showcasing their produce.

Easy Product Navigation: Little Fork Ranch

Little Fork Ranch is a grass-based, multi-species livestock operation producing eggs, broilers, pork, lamb, and beef in Boundary Country near Greenwood, British Columbia. They focus on using sustainable and ethical ranching methods to produce high-quality products: “If ranching in a way that is good for the animal, the soil, the water, our customers, and ourselves, is not common sense, then we do not know what is.”

These ranchers use their online store to sell directly to their customers. As they produce a variety of meat products, their online store is easy to navigate using different categories. Each product type is divided into a separate group, so customers have the choice to browse through All Products, or quickly find what they’re looking for. Additionally, they use product pictures and descriptions, so their customers know what they’re getting! Adding these features will help increase your orders!

Telling Your Story: Dalew Farms

Dalew Farms, a family-owned and operated farm in Nissipissing, Ontario, offers grass-fed beef, lamb and goat meat. All their livestock is raised on pasture during the spring, summer, and fall and fed hay in the winter. In addition to selling directly to their customers, they are also a founding member of Click Fork, an online farmers market servicing customers in North-Eastern Ontario.

The highlight of their online store is their About section. The About section is the only place in an online store where you can tell your customers who you are, and why you do what you do. This mimics the interactions you would have at the market or in-store. Dalew Farms included a great photo of their family and some background on them, their farming practices, and their business values. This section of their online store will help customers answer questions, and get to know their farmers better!

Having a Variety of Products: Black Bear Farm

Located in Dripping Springs, Texas, Black Bear Farm, is committed to providing local and ethically raised meats and vegetables. Beginning in 2015, they currently offer farm fresh eggs, raw honey and pollen, homemade baked goods, and pasture-raised chicken.

In addition to selling their food products on their online store, Black Bear Farm also uses the platform to sell their other products, such as ornaments, gift baskets, and clothing. They also sell spots for their Summer Farm Camp, where children from Kindergarten to Grade 5 spend a week doing fun farm activities. This allows them to aggregate all orders for products and services in one place! It is a great way to stay organized and makes shopping straightforward and convenient for customers.
